The library is currently accepting applications for teen volunteers who are interested in making a meaningful impact. By joining our team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the library’s mission, connect with fellow book lovers, and help create an enriching environment for all visitors.
The Head of Teen Services is the contact person for all teens in grades 6-12 who volunteer at the Beverly Public Library. Please contact Katie Nelson with any questions.
Short-Term Volunteer Opportunities
Short-term volunteering is independently run and does not require sign ups or an application process.
Programming
Downtown Clean Up
Second Tuesday of the month (excluding January, February, and December)
Downtown Clean Up is a monthly program where teen volunteers clean up trash in Downtown Beverly. You can find dates on our event calendar.
The library may offer other programs that provide an opportunity to earn volunteer hours. When they are scheduled they will appear on the event calendar. Past programs have included card making at the Senior Center and sorting recycled eclipse glasses.
Reviews
Teens can submit a book review for two hours of community service. Teens must read the book, fill out the form, and submit a picture or video.
Books that can be reviewed must fulfill the following guidelines:
- Published in the last five years
- Written for teens in grades 6-12
- Be in the Beverly Public Library’s collection
Occasionally, the Head of Teen Services has Advanced Reader Copies (books that have not yet been published) that teens can review. Please stop by the Teen Office to see if there are any to review.
Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities
Long-term volunteers assist the library staff in the following ways:
- Straighten shelves and put library items away
- Work on collection projects with staff
- Prepare craft materials for children’s programs
- Find books in the stacks
- Check the correct placement of books on the shelves
- Perform general tasks
If you are interested and able to commit to 30 minutes a week for a minimum of six months, please submit an online application. We will get in touch with you if the library’s needs are a match with your interests.
Please note: All long-term volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check (CORI) and sign the library’s Volunteer Code of Conduct.
Teen Advisory Board
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is made up of teenagers in middle and high school who have a desire to help their community and a love for the library. The TAB meets with the Teen Librarian monthly to help plan programs, select books, and make other suggestions for how the library can improve its services to teens to fulfill their needs and interests. The TAB page has more information and an application. If you would like to volunteer with/participate in TAB, please note that TAB meets once a month, depending on scheduling/holidays/school breaks. TAB members may be asked to assist with programming or display changes as needed.
